The dogs who made me a dog person.

In this week’s Dog of the Week feature, you met Scout, Dog People’s Senior Drama Coordinator and my sweet, very vocal 13-year-old pup. And next week, you’ll meet Pepper. But they’re not the only pups who’ve inspired me to begin a new adventure with this website.

Meet the dogs who made our lives a little more fun, a little more chaotic, and a whole lot more memorable:

A man kneeling beside a bathtub bathing a dog, with a baby standing next to them.
I was a HUGE help to my dad when Lady needed a bath.

Lady: A sweet senior when I was born, Lady loved swimming and watching over her family.

A tiny black and white puppy sleeping next to a toddler.
Peanut resting up for her next round of chaos.

Peanut: Toy Fox Terrier with endless energy, Peanut quickly stole my two-year-old heart. She could chase a tennis ball for hours and escape any enclosure.

A toy fox terrier lounging in the lap of a man, sitting in a chair outside.
The only way Marla was happy outdoors...

Mimi: Cute as a button, Mimi joined the pack only briefly, but left a lasting mark.

Marla: Marla was a devoted lap dog who lived for snuggles. Getting her to go outside for a potty break was always a negotiation.

A dog and a cat on a kitchen table, with a man brushing the cat.
Stephie and the cat, competing for who would get brushed first (the cat always won).

Stephie: Stephie adored outdoor adventures and surprisingly loved all the grooming her long hair required.

A brown dog lying its head on the arms of a man while he's sitting at a table.
Pumpkin eagerly waiting to do her job as head dishwasher.

Pumpkin: Earning the nickname “Poo” (because she was a little you-know-what), Pumpkin was energetic, affectionate, and loved “helping” my parents by licking every plate clean.

Two dogs in a natural setting, in front of rocks and greenery.
Scout and her big brother Luke happy on a hike.

Luke: My first dog as an adult, Luke was the perfect companion — easygoing, obedient, and endlessly loyal. He tricked me into thinking I was an amazing dog trainer.

A close-up on two dogs faces, nose-to-nose while napping.
Pepper loved to snuggle with Jack. The sentiment wasn't necessarily mutual.

Jack: Jack was a lap dog at heart, but could turn a walk around the block into an hour-long sniffing adventure.

Scout: Scout quickly reminded me that dog training is never as easy as it seems. 🙂

Pepper: I’ll save her stories for next week — this little pup has plenty of tales to tell.

And this list barely scratches the surface — friends, family, and neighbors have brought countless other dogs into my life, each one adding a little extra brightness.

Every dog person has a story to tell. I’d love to hear yours in the comments — the first dog you remember, or the one that left the biggest mark.

Til next week,

Liz
